Summer Outfit Ideas – What to Wear with Floral Dresses

Floral dresses are the perfect look for spring and summer. They’re incredibly versatile, and can be easily dressed up or down for different occasions – be it a guest at a summer wedding or a dinner party. Styling your floral dress can present some challenges, and too much jewelry or conflicting patterns can reduce the coherence of your look. As a general rule of thumb, try sticking to solid colors, simple jewelry shapes, or neutral palettes. Here are some summer outfit ideas on what to wear with floral dresses.

Outfit #1: This look combines the delicate floral pattern of the dress with a few well-placed bold accessories. The Spiked Bib Necklace adds an edgy and refined detail to the sweetheart neckline, while the black sunhat and leather platforms echo the dark palette of the necklace. To avoid heavy accessorizing, pair with a pale pink clutch and matching sunglasses help retain the feminine balance of the look.

Outfit #2: A dressy-casual day look that combines pastel florals with mixed-metal jewelry and gladiator sandals. The Hammered Heart Pendant Necklace adds a delicate detail to the flowing neckline. Its dappled, handmade surface works perfectly with the eclectic Bronze and Gold Chain Toggle Bracelet, which adds some metallic shimmer without distracting from the color palette of the dress.

Outfit #3:  Perfect for a date night, wedding party or dressy event! This polished floral look mixes neutral pastels with subtle metallic jewelry. The Handmade Geometric Gold Studs echo the warm metallic tones in the elegant Brass Crystal Chandelier Necklace. The gold edging of the clutch helps add continuation to the metallic theme, while the pastel jacket highlights a color from the dress pattern.

Outfit #4: Drawing inspiration from tropical colors, this outfit adds a little dose of paradise to your wardrobe. The matching Coral Pink Handmade Beaded Necklace and Handmade Charm Bracelet perfectly highlight the colors of the dress pattern. A solid color orange clutch and neutral brown heels enhance the look without detracting from the bold print.

Outfits #5 and #6:  This is a great example of the many ways to style a floral print dress. The easiest technique? Choose a bold color stud earring and matching shoes! The featured earrings (from left to right) include the Handmade Geometric Studs in Mint, Royal Blue (Dipped in Gold), and Peach. Add a neutral clutch, and you’re ready to roll.

Parisian Style Fashion and Accessories

What is Parisian Style?

While Paris is certainly the fashion capital of the world, Parisian style fashion is not a cliche. In the book Paris Street Style: A Guide to Effortless Chic, French journalist and personal stylist Isabelle Thomas and photographer Frédérique Veysset say “Fashion is indeed at the core of French culture, but we don’t always go out on the streets wearing a beret or a pair of cigarette pants like a Saint Laurent model.”

Parisian style is hard to define. It is defined somewhat by what it isn’t. Its about avoiding dressing head to toe in designer clothes and wearing too much make up with gaudy jewelry. Instead, Parisian Style is about being beautiful by being yourself.

Parisian style is:

  1. au naturel
  2. simple
  3. timeless

Au Naturel

As much as the Italians are flamboyant in their fashion choices, the French are down to earth. They don’t want to be seen as trying too hard. Casual elegance, understated beauty and most importantly, being au naturel are some of the keywords to unlocking the Parisian street style. Here, our French student model Marion is wearing a simple black blazer and white shirt that is accentuated by the Coral tribal spike necklace. Light makeup, no fuss hair, simple earrings complement the natural look, where less is more without being boring.

Simple

Isabelle Thomas says, “People shouldn’t be looking for a disguise through fashion.” Simple is harder to put together than extravagant or flamboyant. Nonchalant chic takes work because its about a true sense of who you are, rather than who you are pretending to be, like a Halloween costume. Below, my other French student model friend Zoe is wearing a simple black tank top, but accentuated with two pieces that show she didn’t just roll out of bed. The coral bracelet paired with the bohemian brass pendant necklace took a lot of thought, but is still understated and elegant. Its not boring, but doesn’t scream at you either.

Timeless

Timeless pieces are what defines the Parisian style: the little black dress, a trench coat, V-neck cashmere sweaters, the short leather jacket. But the French express their individuality through the accessories. In Parisian Chic Style Guide, runway model Ines de la Fressange swears by mixing affordable timeless basics with high-fashion touches, especially with tasteful accessories. Here, Marion is again pairing her timeless black and white outfit with a splash of spring green with the green and gold chandelier earrings. Its sophisticated because its timeless, yet memorable.

What to Wear to an Interview – Four Essential Style Tips for Women

There are a lot of necessary steps when preparing for a job interview: researching the company, looking up the profiles of the people you will be meeting with, and picking the appropriate outfit. But if you’re a woman, you’re probably also stressing about your attire. Instead of spending hours stressing about what to wear to an interview, use these helpful tips to select your perfect interview outfit:

  1. Dress Code: If you aren’t sure what to wear to the interview ask the HR manager or recruiter what the dress code is like at the office and dress accordingly. If the job is as at a skateboarding company, a suit probably won’t go over well. If you know the office wears business attire, you can be sure to avoid mistakes like open toed shoes. When in doubt, err on the side of conservative.
  2. Minimal: Job interviews are not the place to show off your impressive collection of neon bracelets, instead aim for minimalist fashion statements that won’t distract the interviewer. Of course if you are being interview to be a fashion designer, this may not apply, but you get the picture.
  3. Comfortable for Sitting: Remember that the majority of the interview will probably be done with you in a chair, so consider the length of your skirt, how your pants feel after sitting in them for an hour, and how your top or jacket looks when bent at the waist. The last thing you want to do is focus on how uncomfortable you are instead of the interview questions.
  4. Prepared: It is always important to be prepared! Have an extra copy of your resume in a folder, and if you have an iPad keep your portfolio queued up to illustrate the type of work that you can do.

Here are a few outfit ideas to inspire your next interview outfit:

Modern Suit:

Try a modern spin on the traditional suit with this grey dress, it is an appropriate length, and you can add a little pop color with this cute pink iPad case.  Don’t forget to accessorize with some simple jewelry such as this silver twig bracelet, a long silver necklace, and some dangly silver earrings. {Shop the rest of the look on Polyvore}

The Suit:

Not every job interview requires you to show up in a suit, but when it does, make sure you do it right. Pair a classic black suit with a nude or pastel top and a nice understated pair of gold disc earrings and tri-gold necklace. They will be the perfect accessories to this more formal look. {Shop the rest of the look on Polyvore}

Business Casual:

When dressing for a business casual interview you are treading into a fashion landmine! On the one hand you don’t need a suit, but you can’t wear jeans right? Instead opt for a pair of dress pants and a nice top that isn’t a button down. Don’t go all out on the jewelry, stick with simple yet fashionable pieces like these gold and black teardrop earrings and hammered gold pendant. {Shop the rest of the look on Polyvore}

The Brocade Brigade: The Trend and How to Wear it.

If visions of brocade coats, boots, skirts and dresses are dancing in your head at night, you can thank the runways of Missoni, Dolce and Gabbana, Marchesa and Jason Wu for your sweet fashion-filled dreams.  This fall, designers took page out of the Baroque era and saturated their catwalks with finely woven jacquard coats, overly embellished pencil skirts and metallic laced dresses.  Transitioning from the runway to the red carpet, we’re taking cues from our favorite celebrities, who have been sporting brocade inspired looks all over town.

Starlets donning the trend are showcasing everything from the luxuriously chic head to toe look to the subtle hints of these intricate prints.  For those daring to be drenched in brocade, mimic the stylings of Dakota Fanning, who made quite a statement in her Proenza Schouler jacket and skirt, or Jamie King, who paired her Stella McCartney jacquard blouse with the identical print A-line skirt.

If you want to take a dip into the Baroque trend, but don’t want to overwhelm your closet with loads of luxe prints, opt for classic pieces with a twist, like foil print blazers, textured dresses and patterned shoe boots.  Twilight star Kristen Stewart kept it edgy and cool wearing a Roberto Cavalli pointed blazer over black leather pants, while Dallasdarling Jordana Brewster goes for a ladylike elegance in her peach Dolce and Gabbana ensemble.

For the working girl, choosing a look like Alexa Chung’s, who paired her youthful Christopher Kane dress with a white button down blouse, can easily transform the brocade print from sexy nighttime attire to perfectly office appropriate.

With all these celebs inspiring us to channel the Baroque era style, it’ll be easy to transition from the floral ethereal prints of the summer into the darker, brooding tones of autumn, because brocade is taking a firm hold on our fall wardrobe and we can’t wait!

Stacking Bracelets – Four Suggestions on How to Wear Bracelets

Hi All – With all the different styles of bangles and bracelets out there, stacking bracelets can get overwhelming. Here are some quick suggestions on how to choose bracelets for stacking. We all have different styles and different tolerances/lifestyles for how many bangles we can wear at a time so if you have other tips on stacking, please comment below.

1) Color Consistency – For an understated look, choose one color palette and mix and match thickness and textures. For example, silver bangles in different thicknesses and textures or black bangles (leather, fabric, or even metal bangles with black accents).

2) Choose a Focal point – For a more balanced look, choose one chunky piece in a bold color (maybe a chunky enamel bangle bracelet) and stack with thinner simple bangles on one side. Wear the chunky piece as the first bracelet so it supports the other bracelets.

3) Keep it Simple – Stacking bracelets can be as simple as stacking just 2 or 3 bangles – Pick two contrasting colors of a similar style bracelet – for example, a turquoise resin bangle and a similar thickness metal bangle.

4) Touch of Bling or Color – To create focus and balance, break up your stack with a bangle with crystal or rhinestone or something in a contrasting color. This keeps balance the look and adds an interesting aspect to the stack.

Of course, some of these suggestions can be used together as well – such as adding a thin crystal bangle to the color consistent look. Clear crystal goes with anything and creates some focus to the stack.

If you have other suggestions, please comment and tell us. Do you have a system or method that you frequently use when deciding which bracelets to wear together?

The below image is a sample of what we have in our bracelets collection.

How to Wear Fashion Jewelry – Some Basic Tips

You can be as creative as you want with fashion jewelry but there some basic things to keep in mind. Here are some of our tips…

1. Skin tone:
If you’re fair skinned, pastel colors generally suit you. If you have darker skin, go for a darker version of the pastel shade. For example, pastel blue goes with fair skin while a deeper blue like aqua or cerulean blue is more suitable for darker skin.

2. Body type:
If you are full-figured, big beads and gemstones tend to make you look bigger. Stick to smaller stones and beads. The opposite applies to petite women – avoid wearing accessories that are too small. Try chunky beads and gemstones instead.

3. Color of your top:
If you are wearing a dark colored top, try to wear accessories that match and complement the top. Colors opposite on the color wheel go together. For example, yellow goes well with violet. If your top is multi-colored, wear a necklace that just has one color so it doesn’t clash too much with the dress. If your dress or top is in a solid color, try jewelry with more than one color to contrast with your top.

4. Necklaces:
If you’re wearing an intricate necklace (with beads in different sizes and colors), keep the earrings simple – think studs or hoops. On the other hand, if you wear a simple single line necklace, wear a bolder pair of earrings. Just make sure their colors and pattern match. Your necklace and earrings should generally complement each other, not clash with each other.

Feel free to comment and suggest some of your basic accessorizing tips…

What Jewelry to Wear With A Floral Dress

Floral dresses and tops are fun! But because they are already colorful, they aren’t always easy to accessorize. Here are some ideas…

1. Minimal: If the top has a very busy print, keep the accessories minimal. Choose only one accessory – a necklace, a pair of earrings or a bracelet.

2. Keep it simple: Once you decide on the accessory, keep it simple. Wear thin-line bracelets, hoop earrings or a simple chain or pearl necklace. These won’t clash with the print on the dress.

3. Necklaces: When wearing necklaces, try a thin necklace with a pendant that matches the most minimal color in your dress. For example, if the colors on the dress/top include a lot of blue, some cream and a little bit of pink, go for a pink pendant or necklace. Try gemstones instead of beads since they go better on thin chains.

4. Earrings: When wearing earrings, studs are your best bet. They don’t compete with the dress but will complete the look.

5. Bangles & Bracelets: If your sleeves are short or three-quarter, try a big rustic looking bangle in a color that contrasts with the dress’s main color. Don’t wear other accessories with the bangle. Let the bangle stand out with the dress.

As with all our posts on tips/ideas, these are only a few ideas intended to spark your creativity. It all depends on the kind of outfit, your body type and skin tone. Take the above ideas and modify them as you see fit.
