Casual Summer Dresses | How to Style a Sundress

Sundresses come in all shapes and styles, from printed A-line silhouettes to solid maxi dresses. The airy, feminine cut of the sundress creates a prime style opportunity, even in the hottest summer weather. For printed looks, try adding subtle metallic details with jewelry and purses. For solid color dresses, introduce new textures with your choice of shoes and accessories. Statement necklaces or earrings help balance high rounded necklines, while bold earrings help highlight bare shoulders and thin straps. Here’s a look at some outfit ideas with casual summer dresses that are sure to turn heads.

Bright Floral Sundress: This vibrant look pairs a bright orange floral printed sleeveless sundress with subtle gold accents and bold footwear. The vintage-inspired color palette is reflected in the warm muted tones of the clutch, as well as the cat’s eye sunglasses. Adding a natural twist, the platform sandals keep this outfit dressy-casual, and therefore appropriate for a number of occasions.

Summer is already here in many parts of the country. Here are some outfit ideas of what to wear with and how you can accessorize with summery floral skirts.

Lunch Date:

What to wear with a short floral skirt and white top

This outfit is fun and flirty. Everything is so light and airy, from the tied blouse to the strappy sandals heels. Add some simple earthy jewelry like the hammered pendant necklace to the branch shaped drop earrings and the gold feather bracelet, the entire outfit screams summertime! Perfect for a lunch with the ladies or a shopping trip! {Shop the rest of the look on Polyvore}

Outfit idea - what to wear to dinner - flroal skirt with a lace top

A little more dressy than the previous outfit, this floral skirt has a busier and bolder pattern. Pairing it with more polished accessories and a lace peplum top makes it great for an al fresco dinner or an office party. Mixing cotton and lace also gives this outfit multiple dimensions and makes it more interesting. We pair the jewelry to go with the peaches and pinks of the skirt – the peach and pink bib necklace and the pink and gold jeweled cuff bracelet . {Shop the rest of the look on Polyvore}

Dinner with friends:

Outfit idea with a high low floral skirt and peach top

A little more edgy than the previous outfits, this one was one of my favorite to put together. I am a huge fan of the hi-low skirts and absolutely love this simple black floral skirt. We match the blouse with the orange from the flowers in the skirt and pair it with gold jewelry – the black and gold bracelet and the gold leaf earrings.  The cross body bag and sandals complete the outfit. {Shop the rest of the look on Polyvore}

Fourth of July Outfit:

I absolutely love dressing up for the Fourth of July and couldn’t help myself to create an outfit centered completely around this holiday. Pairing the red, white and blue outfit with silver jewelry – the circle pendant necklace, stud diamond earrings and silver twig bracelets everything about this outfit is full of the Fourth of July spirit. Complete the look with a white bag and dark sunglasses. Happy Fourth! {Shop the rest of the look on Polyvore}

Simple and Sweet:

This outfit, being the most girly and conservative is one of my favorites. From the silver drop earrings to the silver bangle bracelets to the onyx pendant necklace this outfit is romantic and chic and makes a statement with its simplicity. {Shop the rest of the look on Polyvore}

What is Small Business Saturday + How to get a $25 AmEx Statement Credit?

Hi All – Here is a quick summary of Small Business Saturday and how you can get a $25 credit on your American Express statement. Official FAQ’s and instructions are available at shopsmall.com.

What is Small Business Saturday?

In 2010, to support small business, American Express coined the term Small Business Saturday. It’s November 24th, the Saturday after Black Friday. On this day, to encourage consumers to shop small and shop local, American Express is offering a $25 statement credit to those who enroll for their offer and spend $25 or more to shop or dine local at any of the merchants they’ve listed on the map at shopsmall.com. Of course, you need to use your AmEx card to get the statement credit.

How to get $25 Statement Credit on your American Express card?

1) Go to https://enroll.amexnetwork.com/US/en/SBS2012/ and enroll your AmEx card to be eligible for the statement credit. Enrollment begins November 18th until Nov 24th. However, they have a quota for how much credit they can offer so hurry before they run out.

2) On Nov 24th, spend $25 in one transaction at any of the merchants listed on the map at shopsmall.com (scroll down the page to see the map). Enter your zip to find which merchants around you are eligible.

3)American Express will issue you a $25 credit on your statement within 8 weeks of your transaction.

Note: this offer is only valid on in-store locations. Online purchases are not eligible for the statement credit. But even without the credit, consider shopping local and support your community.

We are having a huge sale Black Friday through Cyber Monday so check out our store outfitadditions.com and consider buying some of your gifts from us this year.

Accessorizing with Statement Jewelry

Here are a couple things to consider when wearing statement jewelry! Do you have any tips to share?

Keep the focus on either a statement necklace or earrings:

Whether it’s a swinging pair of chandelier earrings or a giant pendant, making a bold statement is a seriously on-trend way of offsetting your outfit either day or night. To strike the right balance, let one piece do the talking though by keeping everything else minimal.

Think: Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s – her showstopping giant pearl choker was offset by dainty studs. Sarah Jessica Parker rocked a bib-like pearl choker perfectly with tiny drop earrings at the NYC Ballet Gala last week.

Statement Rings or Stacked Bangles:

Similarly, if you have a gobstopper of a cocktail ring then be sure to work with a discreet bangle and keep the rest of your hands clutter-free. Alternatively, stacked up cuffs and bracelets are big news for Fall but if you indulge in the trend don’t let them compete with fussy finger adornments.

Keep your outfit balanced:

The same rules apply to clothing and grooming as well, keep colors solid or neutral if wearing a statement necklace or pendant and hair up and away from the neck to let your earrings take all the glory. AnnaLynne McCord got it right at Lloyd Klein’s catwalk show with a pair of big dangling baubles and slicked a slicked back pony tail.

A gigantic brooch is a fantastic way to crown an outfit whether on a lapel or scarf but be sure other jewelry doesn’t steal its thunder. Above all, be bold, be brave and have fun!

A suggestion from our store: the hammered crystal bib ($34) would team up perfectly with our mini nugget drop earrings ($9). Check out the rest of our bib necklaces and chandelier earrings.

What are some of the no-no’s  in your book when wearing statement pieces?
